Thank you for your interest in the Washington County AR Search and Rescue Team.
Team meetings take place the first Tuesday of each month starting at 6pm except in the months of January and July; these meetings take place the second Tuesday of the month starting at 6 PM.
The DEM Training Building is located at:
2574 S. Brink Dr. Fayetteville, AR 72701.
Meetings run around two hours with lectures and discussions covering procedures & protocols and hands-on skills training that can lead us to venture outside to practice in various conditions. You won’t need to bring anything special for the first night other than note taking materials, weather appropriate clothing, closed toed shoes, and a light source---headlamps are preferred but a flashlight will work just fine.
You DO NOT need to submit an application prior to attending a meeting, in fact we encourage interested parties to attend a few meetings, to meet the team, and to begin to understand the realities of what we do before deciding whether you want to submit an application.
If you feel inclined to join the team there is a formal application procedure that includes both references and a thorough background check.
Volunteer Background Check Form
A positive vote by the leadership would designate you as a Probationary Team-Member. It is then expected that you hold or complete a CPR/1st aid Certificate within 6 months and that you successfully challenge the NASAR (National Association for Search and Rescue) SARTEC II requirements within 12 months of start date, earning you full WCSAR Team Member designation. In addition, there are several NIMS classes to run through, skillsets to develop, and basic search strategy to learn. The Team will help prepare you for all requirements.
All positions with WCSAR are purely voluntary, if you do become a team member and begin responding to searches you will need to provide your own gear. We do have a WCSAR Probationary Pack List that consists mostly of self-rescue gear and if you transition to a SARTEC II we have some additional equipment we’d like you to carry. Our gear is minimal but specific, we don’t advise anyone to purchase anything until they’re moving through the training process.
We look forward to meeting you!
