Washington County Sheriff's Office deputies write reports when there is a crime associated with a fire (eg. burn ban violation, allowing fire to escape, burning unlawful materials), if there are suspicious circumstances, or there is an injury or fatality.   To obtain a copy of those reports, contact the Records Department of the Washington County Sheriff's Office at (479) 444-5785.

Complete a Public Education Request Form and send it to one of our WCSO fire investigators at jcox@washcosoar.gov. You may also contact us at (479) 444-5720.  We request that Fire Safety Education Presentations be scheduled at least two weeks prior to the presentation date.

Free smoke alarms can be picked up at any fire department in your area. Smoke alarms are also distributed at the Washington County Sheriff's Office by WCSO fire investigators. If you need help with the installation of the smoke alarm, you may contact our WCSO fire investigators or your local fire department.

If you plan on doing outdoor burning, please notify your nearest local fire department.   Please read the Outdoor Burning Regulations before you burn.

Burning anything other than brush in the state of Arkansas is considered an illegal burn. Burning brush is legal, however the owner of the brush pile must maintain a constant watch on the brush pile to prevent it from spreading and have means of extinguishing the fire if needed. If there is a burn ban, all outdoor burning must cease for the duration of the burn ban. For more information, see the Outdoor Burning Regulations section.

Per the Washington County Burned Structure Cleanup Ordinance, after a structure has sustained damage from a fire; the property owner has 120 days to remove the damaged property.
